Your body’s immunity system is a combination of automatic bodily functions orchestrated by the intricate cooperation among many organ systems, according to Terilee Cornish, a nutrition consultant. The immune system protects you from metabolic and foreign chemical toxic stress, viral and bacterial infections and many other types of disease conditions.
Listed hereunder are some of the ways you can compromise your immune system. The list is however not exhaustive.
1. Eliminating all forms of sugar
Eating or drinking too much sugar can suppress your immune system and impair your defenses against infectious diseases. Sugar distrupts the mineral relationship in your body. It causes chromium and copper deficiences and interferes with the absorption of calcium and magnesium. It can cause a loss of tissue elasticity and function. Sugar is also known to feed cancer cells and has been connected with the development of the cancer of the breast, ovaries, prostate, rectum and pancreas. It can also weaken eyesight and cause premature aging.
2. Processed foods
When you eat processed foods, you may be triggering the release of powerful anti-bodies meant to fight off foreign invaders, which can actually cause collateral damage to your body’s cells. The over-abundance of many processed and biologically incompactible foods in the typical western diet can simultaneously enhance inflammation. This will mute your immune system’s ability to respond to and ultimately control infections.
Gluten is a protein found in certain grains, including barley, rye and wheat. It is found in crossbreeds of these grains as well as in any packed or processed foods. Ingesting gluten prompts an immune response which is inappropriately activated causing impairment of your body’s ability to absorb nutrients. As a result, you may experience symptoms such as bloating, diarrhea, gas, skin lesions, and constipation.
However, eating gluten-free foods unnecessarily might lead to weight gain, if you are substituting gluten-free replacement products, as these products are often higher in sugar and fats.
4. Hydrogenated fats
Unhealthy dietary fats can affect the body’s immunity by causing both inflammation and obesity. It can also triggers an overactive and thereby compromise your immune system. Healthy fats, when consumed in moderation can promote immune function by helping prevent chronic inflammation and overactive immune function.
5. Erratic sleep patterns
Not getting enough sleep has been linked to a long list of mental and physical healthprolems, including those that stem from impaired body’s immunity. It is well known that lack of sleep can increase your chancesof getting sick. Researchers have learned that circadian rhythms – the 24-hour cycles known as your internal body clock are involved in everything from sleep to weight gain, mood disorders and a variety of diseases.
Sleeping well is one of the corner stones of optimal health and if you ignore your poor sleeping habits, you will in time pay a price. Generally, you will feel best and maintain optimal health when your lifestyle is in line with your circadian rhythm. Establish healthful routines of eating, exercising and sleeping and to stick to them everyday.
6. Factory farmed animal products

People do not get plant diseases, they get animal diseases such as E.coli, Salmonella and other deadly bacteria and pathogens in foods – factory farms are the reason.
According to Merriam – Webster, stress is defined as ” a state of mental tension and worry caused by problems in your life, work etc.” Stress can be good or bad. When stress is prolonged, it becomes known as chronic stress. Chronic stress can be detrimental to your physical and mental health.
Chronic stress result in high levels of cortisol and other corticosteroids circulating in the blood for a long period of time. People who suffer from chronic stress can experience symptoms like anxiety, depression and sleep problems. Physically, they risk high blood pressure,heart diseases and digestive problems. Importantly, is that ” they risk a very weak body’s immunity, making you vulnerable to infection and autoimmune diseases. ” says Dr. Mary Meagher.
8. Chemical Additives and Preservatives
Additive is a great substance added to another in relatively small amounts to impart or improve desirable properties. There are more than 3,000 food additives – preservatives, colors, and other ingredients..
Synthetic Trans Fats, common in hydrogenated vegetable oils areknown to promote inflammation which is the hallmark of most chronic diseases such as diabetes, and decrease in the immune function.
Artificial sweetners has been shown to lead to even greater weight gain than consuming sugar.
Monosodium Glutamate ( MSG ) is a flavor enhancer, most often associated with Chinese food and processedfood products. MSG overexcites your cells to the point of damage or death causing brain dysfunction, triggering learning disabilities.
Preservatives lengthen the shelf live of foods, but have been known to alter behavoiur, have the potential to cause cancer and decrease the body’s immunity function.
